I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but just curious if you had seen Steven Levitt's talk on TED about car seats being no better than seat belts. Interesting talk.

40:15 To support Marco point:
"While teens under 18 cannot use any electronic device while driving, motorists over that age can still send text messages or check e-mail."

This was an excellent interview, thank you so much for doing it. Our daughter's shoulders are now above the top straps, so we need a new seat pronto!
Matt- If I understand Steven Levitt's TED talk correctly, he was mainly advocating cars include seat belts adjustable for size of person in the back seats. He's probably right, though I'm sure 90% of us would adjust those wrong, too.

Hi all! the one who did the interview...
Just because I have to - one of the big mistakes we see is chest clips being used as belly clips. :) (they are supposed to be up between the shoulders instead of down around the belly)
A great site for resources on carseat safety is www.car-seat.org - I don't think we talked about that one.

Great Interview! I too am one of those passionate moms crazy about car seat safety! One thing that Kate didn't touch on that is becoming much more encouraged is keeping babies over one year of age rear-facing to the weight limits of their car seats. The rile of thumb in car seat safety is a step up in restraint is a step down in safety!
I love your Podcast guys!
