I am officially on the Diet Coke wagon.
It's my only vice (unless you include gin & tonics, margaritas, and bribing my children with chocolate chip cookies, which I do not count as vices.) I used to drink one can of Diet Coke every morning right after I woke up. On Mothers Day, May 11th, I gave it all up. It was a lot easier than I thought.
I'm quitting because of the caffeine, the artificial sweetner, the other chemicals, and because of the space all those aluminum cans and plastic bottles were taking up in my recycling bin. Not to mention this study, this one, and this one.
Who's with me?

I used to do the same, but gave it up years ago. My kids and husband have given up soda recently. Still do caffeine (coffee and tea) but no more soda. Good for you!

Good for you. Though I thought perhaps you have it up because of this site:

doh! "have it up" "gave it up" - same thing, right?

i should, i really really should give up diet coke. i drink way more than just one first thing in the morning. i keep trying to kick the habit but each time, after about a week in the cravings get to be too much and i give in.
only once have i been able to kick it for a few months. however, then i thought i could have 'just one' and became completely addicted once again.
good for you. i'll give it another try :)

Sorry, I... I just... I can't. My diet Pepsi is almost all I have left. I quit smoking years ago. I hardly ever drink booze anymore and, when I do, I nurse a drink for about an hour. I've given up almost all pasta, potatoes, and rice, and only eat about 25% of the bread I used to. I quit using real butter. I only use light salt. I hardly eat anything with sugar anymore. Please don't take my diet Pepsi from me! Wwaaaaahhhh! *sniffle*

I went for years taking in hardly any caffeine. Drank decaf iced tea from a mix. the sugar intake was crazy though. Cut that out. Couldn't get on board with the diet iced tea. I have been drinking way too much Cherry Coke Zero. But trying to scale that back too. Water water water. Must drink more water.

I used to be a real caffiene freak, even the coffee coke, you had in america while I was out there. Now its Roobush, no alcohol and no tea. I do actually feel 100% better for it.
Instead of tea you can also try remedies like Ephedra Virdis 'Mormon Tea'. This is one of my favourites.

I quit about 3 months ago and I feel great! It was actually easier than I thought. The only downside is that it seems that everything is way too sweet for me now. I actually think the caffeine was more difficult to give up then the diet coke was.
Good luck Megan, you'll do great!!

And here I thought I was unique. I quit in February, I think. I read about aspartame turning into formaldehyde and that was that. I drink only water and sometimes milk, juice and beer.
Yeah, so I have a vice. But no more aspartame.

Wow! I'm so glad to know I'm not alone.

I'm down to 2-3 cans a week. I work part-time and I can't seem to give up the "1 a day" at work. At home, I can't stand it. But at work, I still like it. not sure why.

Yup. I just did this very same thing on Friday! Spooky. It wasn't just diet coke, though...it was all artificial sweeteners.

I recently backed way off the amount of diet flavored water I was drinking, starting to wonder about the large amounts of artificial sweeteners.

At my wife's recommendation I gave up Coke about three years ago, and haven't had one since. I used to go out with the boys for nachos and Coke, and we'd line up the pitchers. Needless to say, my heart, my teeth, and my weight are better now.

Sorry but I'm not with you on this one. Study schmudy. It tastes good, it's not calorific, I don't see what the point is in denying yourself this little pleasure.
Go back to it forthwith!

I've given up all (that i know of) excitotoxins. They give me heart arrhythmia (and not just me, other people, lots)

I just googled "Quitting Diet Coke" and landed here. Did you do it? Are you off? Coke marketed the lovely DC in my dorm back in 1982 - that's how long I have been drinking it! There's nothing better than waking up to a cold can of fizzy Diet Coke in the morning, but I think it is the only vice I have keeping me overweight.

I've been Diet Coke free since Mother's Day. I wish I could say I was caffeine free, but on days when the kids get up in the middle of the night I always treat myself to a carmel frappaccino, no whipcream. When they get up twice in the middle of the night, I get the whipcream.

What else explodes besides diet coke and mentos?

I tasted the new Coke Zero and actually liked it. I think Coke has a winner here. But, I stay away from all cola's as they can cause temporary memory loss.
