This was another great show! Thank you for providing so much interesting information - I definitely need to work on archiving my pictures and this may be the show to get me motivated.

I wanted to second the Stacking Robots. My 4-year-old received them for his birthday last month and they are fun, but you really need more than one set.

Regarding the device that measures the amount of speech a child is exposed to. I feel that the manufacture is insulting parents.

Autism is not caused by kids not being exposed to language. Other speech delays can be cause by many things.

Neglect and abuse can be a cause, yes. So can multiple ear infections. I have a student now who has had ear infection followed by ear infections. The parents have done everything the doctors have said to do, they have investigated every avenue but the solution has been elusive.

In my family several 2nd or 3rd children have had speech delay. This is in a very verbal family. In each case the solution offered by the speech teacher/doctor was easy - tell older sibling to stop talking/translating for younger sibling. Yes the cause of the speech delay was to much exposure to language.

Hi! Regarding the speech measurement device, as a geek dad, of course I'd use it! Yes the description is offensive, I feel that my wife and I speak to our daughter sufficiently and I am not concerned that we NEED to measure her speech exposure. But as a geek I have to think, a speech analysis tool? COOL! No way would I spend $400 - or even $50 for a device to record conversations with my daughter. But I feel there is certainly a level of geek appeal there. Any free/open source software I could use to do the same sort of speech analysis? ;-) Particularly from the description of the device, the analysis of the how the baby responds to your speech.
My wife and I have wondered about some of our daughters babbling, when is she trying to imitate our sounds, or is she trying to actually respond to us, or just making noise.
