Jumping Monkeys Episode 3: Happy Father's Day
Jumping Monkeys Episode 3 has just been released. Thanks for listening.
In honor of Father's Day we recommend last minute gifts for dads. Plus, we show off some links by and for dads. Then we interview two very cool dads and another cool guy, who's not a dad, but is still cool.
Links we talked about on the show:
- Planet Earth DVD
- The Blogfathers: Dads You Can't Refuse - Daddy blogging goodness for the whole family (or at least for those over 18.)
- Lullabye Renditions of Metallica - This comes from James H who says the Rockabye Baby versions of The Cure and Nine Inch Nails always put their 2 year old to sleep at night. (They're on their iPods and their son has an iHome in his room.)
- Sandbox Threads - Cool clothes for little ones. Started by a stay-at-home dad.
- Cry-it-out: Adventures of a Stay at Home Dad - The very funny blog of SF journalist Mike Adamick. He sews his daughter's clothes and stuffed toys, people. We'll be interviewing him on an upcoming show.
- Make Magazine's DIY Gifts for Dad
Our Father's Day book pick is The Road by Cormac McCarthy. You can download it free by going to Audible.com/TWit.
The Interviews:
We first chat with Alternadad Neal Pollack and non-dad Ben Brown (formerly of Consumating.com) about their hilarious new site Offsprung: Your Life Didn't End When You Became a Parent. Next we catch up with Farker and father Drew Curtis about his new book: It's Not News It's Fark.

Looking for a great pocket diaper? Listener Steve says, try Fuzzi Bunz.

Rockabye Baby has a Radiohead version that is awesome! We've been borrowing that from the library for, uh, quite some time now, maybe we need to get that back soon.

I LOVE The Blogfathers. Maybe I'm just biased because they made me a Goomah last year.

Loved the interviews, though as someone that use to be a professional body piercer everyone in my old shop use to HATE it when some parent brought their child in to get a piercing. While this doesn't apply to all teenagers, most of them aren't mature enough to do what it takes to take care of a piercing and more often than not those same kids came back in for advice on taking care of infections.

I'm a bit late to comment on this, but I was a little behind in my podcasts.
I found Leo's comments about cloth nappies leaking etc amusing. I think it's been a while since Leo has had to change nappies :)
We're an entirely cloth household (and loving it!). While we've got a few pocket ones, I have found that the best ones overall are Baby Beehinds - http://www.babybeehinds.com.au/
In 14 months, I could probably count on both hands the amount of times a nappie leaked (with one particularly explosive incident I don't think I need to share - I gather it's a unversial experience). Pockets sometimes work better on older babies rather than in the first few months (in my experience anyway).
Without getting into an argument on the economics of cloth versus disposable, I think the real benefits of cloth come with the second and third child, sort of like economies of scale I guess :)

Thanks for the kind words. It's nice to know that some people really do care.

We purchased Planet Earth for our school. It is fantastic. I teach at a Title I school. Our kids don't see very much of the world outside of their apartments, Wal-mart, and our school.
The our 5th and 4th grade science teachers used segments of the DVD to illustrate lessons. The kids understanding skyrocketed.
