I've got two big pieces of news for the Jumping Monkeys podcast. First, we're featured on the front page of the iTunes podcast section, under New Releases. If you've got some time, go to our iTunes page and leave a comment if you liked the first episode (or even if you didn't.)
Next, the SFist (a San Francisco-centric news/culture blog) recently interviewed me about the podcast. Feel free to read the interview while you wait for our next episode. Leo just got back from his vacation, but he promises it will be up soon.
Also, we're currently working on our Father's Day episode, so if you have any great dad links, post them in the comments or e-mail them to Megan@twit.tv.

That was a good interview Megan. I really like the picture too.

I just wanted to let you know that I absolutely loved the first episode! The diaper discussion in particular had me nodding in agreement...I have 2 in diapers right now, and I don't even want to think about three in diapers! Can't wait for the next one.

Megan,
I'm not a parent, but a teacher. I look forward to hearing what you all have to say.
I'm especially interested in what you all think teachers should be teaching regarding technology. I'm an instructional technology teacher K-5. I design math, science, or social studies projects using technology to reinforce what the classroom teachers are teaching.
What do you all think about technology like Qwizdom? My students love it, 3rd graders begged to practice math facts with it instead of having free game time on the computers.
I'm much less a fan of drill and kill software like SuccessMaker.
At what age do you all think kids should start learning keyboarding skills? We are starting in 3rd grade right now. Do you all think it is to early to late? (Note my school is 100% title I, so most students do not have access at home). I want to make sure they start with good habits, but it is hard with Kinders have to use the same computers and chairs as the 5th graders.
What about using Web 2.0 in schools? I'm working on a blogging project for our 4th and 5th G&T group. It is in a walled garden situation. Again most of our parents are not computer literate. I worry about our kids getting into what ever follows My Space and Facebook without getting a good foundation in basic safety and manners on line.
I just finished my first year teaching tech (was 5th grade before this). I've had to call one parent because her child was on My Space. Booted 3 5th graders off the computers for inappropriate activity. (They could use computers in their classroom for assigned work. They lost the privilege of being allowed to go to other classrooms, library, or tech lab during class time to work on projects.
What besides Computers should be included in technology classes for K-5? I teach digital photography, some imaging but the software is horrible. I want the kids to be able to create movies with our video camera, but our server spaces is minimal - I have more room on my laptop than all the students put together. I know this because I filled up their space with just one 5th grade class's video last year.
I was also brainstorming ways to use GPS systems to teach the kids to use maps. Maybe have one class create a treasure hunt on the playground for another class.

Yea! Congrats on your new podcast show. I miss all of you from The Screen Savers original cast. Here is some ideas/topics for your podcasts that I was hoping to hear the answers to: When it comes to kids browsing on the internet, what is the best software I can put on my computer to block bad stuff. I also want my daughters to have an email addresses to be able to write to their long distance grandparents. What would you recommend? I don't want my kids to get ANY spam whatsoever.

It's so nice to hear your voice again! Missed ya. Your picture (drawing, whatever) is okay, but it doesn't do you justice since you're really much prettier. I just wanted to say good luck with the podcast. Hope the kids and hubby are all happy and well (you too!). Try to make sure that Leo doesn't take too much vacation or it's going to wear him out. ;-) Take care.
