Do not try this at home
I'm not crafty. But that doesn't keep me from trying. Last week I got the grand idea to dye little pieces of pasta so that the kids could string them into necklaces. Have you ever in your life seen prettier pasta?
Annabella really enjoyed stringing the pasta onto necklaces. While Milo and Huck really enjoyed crunching the pasta with their little fists and then stomping on the pieces until they were very small and very difficult to get out of the carpet.
If I cooked more, I'd probably know that pasta is breakable and when it's been soaked in food coloring it's even more breakable. Even the pieces that made it onto Annabella's necklaces didn't last long.
Where did I go wrong?

You cooked the pasta? It would never have occurred to me to cook the pasta. Did you have directions you followed. The colors are beautiful and vibrant. Bet the carpet looked great.

If you soak the pasta in the dye and dry it in a slow oven or if you paint it when it's hard, it might not break so easily.

I don't have a clue about the pasta... all we ever did was eat it ;) besides, I was distracted by your beautiful countertop. **sigh** And that diet coke looks really refreshing *chuckles*

Hello Megan. WheelMan here. Long time since I last posted here.
I noticed that you have "The Lorax" on your bedside table. I remember seeing the cartoon when I was about 7 and crying. It's an amazing and moving story. Hopefully your kids are not as sappy as I am, but I hope they do enjoy it. It's scary to think how that book is even more meaningful today than ever before.

I'm not sure whether you did anything wrong. It's possible that dyed pasta jewelry is just fragile. I did a bit of gogling and pretty much every site has the same directions as this one: http://www.barillaus.com/Kids_Party__Dying_Pasta.aspx
